World Championship Trophies
In 2007 An Coimisiun Le Rinci Gaelacha decided that the World Irish Dance Championships needed some new awards to present to the champions. They wanted something unique – a trophy that could be held up and everyone would know that it was the World Champions.
After a competitive round of talks and design pitches Doherty Medals and Trophies won the contract to make them. The trophies, sponsored by the Irish dance superstar Michael Flatley, are hand made globes with the map of the world chased into the silver. Each one stands at 2feet high and has its own mahogany box to house it.

Michael Flatley presents Peter Smith, President of An Coimisiun with the new Doherty trophy.
The personal hand made touch that each trophy has received means that each champion will have an individual trophy that cannot be imitated.
